Ruth Hartley, High Oakham School Plays - Help Please!

Hi! I’m Paul Young and I attended High Oakham from 1962 to 1967, joining from Heathlands at Rainworth at the same time as John Wilford. I remember names in my year like Peter Allen, Andrew Atkinson, John Gregory and Roger Stendhall and others. Whilst at school Ruth Hartley and I became an item. Ruth came up from Broomhill the year after me and was friends with Pat Dobb, Mary Radford and Mary Roff, amongst many others.

After school I trained as a quantity surveyor and then moved into international transportation and logistics, travelling around the world and attaining senior UK and European roles, before retiring last year. Ruth trained as a nursery nurse at Waverley College and gaining her NNEB, before working in state school nurseries for many years and retiring to look after our grandchildren and to set up and run a number of free of charge carer and toddler groups around Mansfield. We have 4 children and 11 grandchildren and just celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary.

Ruth has a ‘special’ birthday next March and I would like to surprise her with something from the past. She took leading roles in two school productions and I remember her playing Smeraldina in The Servant of Two Masters, by Carlo Goldoni. The school cast went down to the West End to see and meet Tommy Steel in that play. I remember in-costume photos and a review in the Chad, but there is nothing in their archives. High Oakham have not been able to help. Does anyone have anything that might help please? Thanks for your help and best wishes, Paul.
