• Hello Dawn,
  I think the land where Vale Court flats are was once part of the grounds of Clerkson Hall.
  As our editors are all volunteers we don’t have any access to historical material other than what is posted on the website, therefore you may get more information from visitors to the site if you add your question to an actual page, I would suggest Mansfield Woodhouse Old Cross as the photo shows Clerkson Hall in the background, although you may find another page that you feel is more appropriate.

• I AM REALLY ENJOYING BROUSING THROUGH YOUR VERY IMPRESSIVE WEBSITE.

  I THINK THAT I’VE ALREADY MENTIONED THAT I WAS BORN AT 150 SOUTHWELL ROAD WEST MANY MOONS AGO,

  BUT WHAT I HAVEN’T PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED THAT AS A 16-YEAR OLD I PURCHASED MY FIRST SHOTGUN FROM THE HARDWARE SHOP IN WESTGATE AND BECAUSE I FAILED TO GET PERMISSION TO HUNT I STARTED HUNTING ON THE LARGE MOORLAND BETWEEN THE END OF BIG BARN LANE AND (I THINK) MANSFIELD COLLIERY.

  THIS WAS A VAST MOOR AND I WAS WONDERING IF IT STILL EXISTED?

  ON ARRIVAL IN NEW ZEALAND IN NOVEMBER 1962, WITH MY WIFE, I SOON OBTAINED A FIREARMS LICENCE AND PURCHASED A 22 CALIBRE RIFLE – STARTED KNOCKING ON DOORS AND I WAS NEVER REFUSED PERMISSION TO SHOOT RABBITS & HARES.

  IN THE UK MY DAD USED TO BUTCHER ALL THE GAME I SHOT, BUT I SOON LEARNT HOW TO DO IT MYSELF.

  WHAT HAPPENED BETWEEN 1962 WAS TO SPEND A LIFETIME OF INVOLVEMENT IN SHOOTING SPORT – AND REPRESENTED NEW ZEALAND IN INTERNATIONAL PISTOL SHOOTING.
