This is Mansfield Colliery Girls Brigade who were based in Forest Town Drill Hall. The Nora referred to in the photograph was my mother, Nora Varnam. Seated on her right is her sister Kath, who subsequently died in childbirth aged 26. Times were hard at the time of the photograph, but the brigade provided entertainment and fellowship through the grim days of the 1920’s.
