The Garton family

Distant view of Mansfield

The Garton family lived at No. 5 Swan Lane from 1898 till 1913 when they moved to Lime Grove Forest Town.

My great uncle George’s school friend was I believe Lou Betts whose parents had a shop. I would love to see the house they occupied, I believe it has been demolished. My great aunt Alice said it was a tall stone built property rented from the Duke of Portland with a stream running through the garden. They had a fish and chip shop there which burnt down.
