Forest Town Bus Outing

Hopefully someone will be able to add a date and more information about this photograph. It is a Forest Town outing and the buses are believed to be Redferns Coaches, I think the owner Wilf Redfern is stood on the left with a paper in his hand.

  • Two ladies that I can identify in the photo are:

Doris Derry (2nd from right hand side…middle row….Mother of Barbara…Headmistress of Forest Town Infants’ School).

Lucie Stevens (seated 2nd from left hand side front row…wife of Cecil Stevens the local Undertaker).
Both were great friends of my Grandmother: Jessie Lucas.

  • Wilfs daughter Joyce was driving her dads 14 seater coach in 1955 when she was 25 (born 1930) – this was taken from an article we published in the Forest Town Crier Sept 2005.

  • The lady at the back, 4th from the left, is Miss Berry, who was the Headmistress of the infants at Forest Town. I recall that she never married and on retirement moved from her home, a bungalow on Old Mill lane, into a similar property on Pecks Hill.
I can recognise Wilf Redfern but do not remember him having buses in the late 40’s early 50’s
You could hire buses from the Mansfield and District Bus Co. and also Landers of Rainworth.
(Hopefully, Tommy Redfern would be of assistance on the date of the photo).
