ASDA Open Day 25th October 1998

It is hard to believe it is 20 years since the Asda Mansfield Store opened on Old Mill Lane in Forest Town. Prior to the official opening I was lucky enough , with other people, to be invited to an Open Day to preview the store. As a local historian I was given permission to take photographs, these are just a few of them.

The store has been altered and expanded since it first opened, for example a second floor now houses ‘George’,  additional shops are inside the main store,  there are now different ways to pay for your goods and the opening hours are different.  WHAT ARE YOUR MEMORIES?

  • I was actually the first person to get in the shop on opening day- I got a box of Celebrations for that!

I miss that original version of the store before all the refurbishments and things being moved around, I loved the massive video screen that had over the music & video section!

  • Remember when all that area was fields as I’m sure many other people will. Would be interesting to see photos from any other readers regarding this former site, and houses around the site, also where has the time gone?
