James Read and Mabel Osborne

My grandfather James Read was a member of the Northumberland Fusiliers in World War I. He was born in Byker, Northumberland in 1890 and joined the army when he was only 14/15yrs old. After the war he married Mabel Osborne in December 1918. They had two daughters, Emily May (my mother), Lillian (my aunt) and a son Frank (my uncle). They lived in Mansfield where James worked as a steel moulder and I remember Grandma Mabel going off to open ‘the market’ but as she died in 1957, I have limited memories of her or Grandad as he also passed in my early years.
