Henley High School (A former private school in the days before Ofsted!)

Henley High School pupils

The school photo was taken at the rear of St. Marks Church, Mansfield,  and the school was held in Henley Hall (not a very good venue!), hence the name of the school. The photo is of all the pupils at the school taken circa 1947. I don’t recall the subjects I was taught there, I wonder if anyone else does?

The hall had a stage which was used for the performance of the Mikado.

On the back row,3rd from the left, is Ian Blackwell and next to him Mary Wheatley. On the middle row, 2nd from the left, Wilf Freeman, then Russell Hill and Mary Emms followed by Michael Shaw (with banjo) and on the far right Pat Lowe. Kneeling at the front, from the left, Michael Tryner, John Sankey and Michael Parkin.

  • I was sent there, age 5, would have been 1949. It moved to Sutton, and a bit later I was sent to King Edwards. Got a photo of me and 3 other little girls in the grounds.
