Guardsman Anthony G F W Hurst-Taylor – Coldstream Guards

We have received a request for help from amateur historian ‘Debbie Buelau’ who with members of her community in Germany has undertaken an amazing local history project commemorating 14 British soldiers who were killed in Kutenholz, Germany. The soldiers died shortly before the Second World War ended in 1945

The project involves tracing living relatives of the soldiers who are now commemorated on three memorials in Kutenholz Cemetery as the attached photos show. The memorials were paid for by an anonymous donor.

The photo showing just one memorial is of five soldiers who were in a Sherman Tank that went over a remote controlled ignite sea mine.

So far, the relatives of four of the five soldiers named have been found but to date those of Anthony G F Hurst- Taylor have not been discovered.

Anthony was born in Mansfield in 1926 his parents were Harry Hurst Taylor & Rose (née Cooper) who were known to have had several children. While Anthony did not marry some of his siblings did, among these was Travis who had two children, Jennifer and Michael. These events are all believed to have taken place in Mansfield.
