The first picture was taken pre 1911 as there are no tram lines. The route went to Crown Farm terminus which is the junction of Eakring Road and Violet Hill

I don't think the trams used Church street anyway, so you wouldn't see any tram lines.

The main shops I recall here were Halfords, (just bike spares in the fifties), and Blake and Beeley, (hardware store), none of the 'big boy' DIY Superstores then. That viaduct is a great structure and is still 'part of the furniture' and will surely last forever!. Down on the right would have been the Old Eight Bells Pub - probably still there? The Johnny Hobbs Stompers were a regular act at this location.

Towards the bottom of Church Street on the left could be found a small bakery where mini loaves were available for one penny. We used to by one or sometimes two when on our way to school - St. Johns at that time. Again back in the mid '50's.
