In the page ‘Mansfield Men’s Return From the 2nd Boer War 1901’ which was recently added by Tony & Dorothy Mellors it includes a list of names of men who have returned. One of the men is James Newton, and this is believed to be James Newton shown in the photograph.
As a boy he lived with his parents at Peniment Farm, Mansfield Woodhouse. The story handed down says he joined the Hussars/Yeomanry and was eventually bought out by his father who established him in Crown Farm, Mansfield where he remained till around November 1917.

My husband is Geoffrey Newton, born 1950 in Pleasley. The son of Frederick Walter Newton and Winifred Biggins. I wonder if they are related ?
