Sherwood Foresters

My granddad George Thomas Clarke is the man on the far left in the picture, he grew up on Pickard Street, Mansfield. I believe he was part of the Notts and Derby Foresters Regiment in Germany 1951/1952, 11th division.  I am looking on behalf of my grandad to help reunite him with some of his old army friends, If anyone knows the other men in the picture, or has any information I would be eternally grateful.

  • The picture on this page is that of my cousin George Thomas Clarke. The last time I saw him he lived on Carter Lane in Mansfield and I have for some time been trying to reconnect with him.  It is some time since you posted this request and I am hoping that you see my comment and get in touch as I would very much like to see him again.

  • I came across this site by chance and saw the details of George Thomas CLARKE, a former Sherwood Forester.  I served with both 1st and 2nd Battalions, as a regular soldier, from 1948 to 1953, in Hildesheim, Goslar,  and Wuppertal, BAOR, and in 1952 when both Battalions were at Colchester Barracks.    While I do not recall Mr CLARKE, our paths must have crossed at some stage.  Not sure how many former Foresters of that period are still around and proud of their service.

  • Kerry, if you are on Facebook search for The Sherwood Foresters they have a page for the Regiment. You can also get in touch with the Regimental Headquarters at Chilwell they do newsletters and maybe able to put something in about your grandfather. I am Chairman of the local Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regimental Association in Mansfield, we meet once a month at Debdale Lane Sports Complex. Your grandfather would be more than welcome if he wants to come along to one of our meetings, the next meeting will be in September on the second Tuesday which is 13th we start at 7.30pm, the meetings are for ex members of the Sherwood Foresters.
