Official Opening of the New Mansfield Library

Mansfield’s new library will offically open its doors on Tuesday 10th January 2012 and to mark the occasion we thought that you might like to see some photographs of the library when it first opened in 1977.

  • One of my earliest memories of the new Mansfield library was going in to use an interactive video library. It was stored on silver discs about the size of an LP, if I remember correctly!
    Can anybody remember using this?
I can’t remember what it was done for but I think at the time it was heralded as the new Doomsday Book?
Can you remember what it was called?
Dose the record still exist in any shape or form?

  • I remember the visit of the Queen and Prince Philip to the new Mansfield Library in 1977. I was a pupil at Brunt’s Grammar and a few of us from each school in Mansfield were chosen to sit in the auditorium for their visit.
We had a rehearsal the day before and we were allocated seats on the back row, but on the day we were moved to the front! I got to shake hands with both the Queen and Prince Philip – What a day!
