Today many car parks are needed to accommodate the large number of vehicles driven into the town every day. In the 1930s, however, parking next to the Bentinck memorial was perfectly acceptable.
In the 30’s and right up until the 70’s. I remember parking many times near the memorial. On days / evenings when the stalls were empty / left up you could park in the aisles, nose in.

Many years ago you could pick up a taxi,or if you were on a bus trip get your bus on the market.
