  • At 78 years old curiosity got the better of me and I found your website. I first heard Mansfield S A Band and Songsters when I was a a few months old. The Pearces were adopted Uncle and Auntie. I was so pleased to see “Uncle” Alf Pearce in photo 8 second from right with the tenor horn and able to pick him out on the 1950 Songster photo with Aunt Elsie. She was also the Corps Cadet Guardian. They had 2 daughters, Maureen and Jennifer. The former was a bit older than me. And in my very early teens I had a “pash” for Maureen . The last time I saw them was in about 1965 at their home at 38 Bancroft Lane.

I remember Mansfield Band well – marching from the Market place With Tom Attiwell leading after the flag and officers. and of course the Sousaphones – good looking but not as hearty as BBb and EEb tubas.

  • In the late 50s I worked with Colin Ogden,[trombonist] whose father was the conductor, they lived on Rooth St. I attended a few of the concerts when the SA staff bands came to Mansfield, always a good turnout.

  • Names & faces flooding back. Dear Auntie Pheobe & Uncle Albert Parker. My Dad of course & next to him Barry Parker who I still speak to from time to time. Pete Randall my fellow 1t baritone in the band, sadly no longer with us. Rita Evans & on and on. Can’t understand why my Grandma Jepson is not there.
