  • Hello Graham. My everlasting memories of the Co-op are in the run up to Christmas during the late 50s early 60s. The toy fair complete with Santa’s grotto filled a complete floor. I can remember staring wide eyed at all the toys on display. Train sets, Bikes, Cowboy outfits and basically every toy you could think of. The hardest part was deciding which one would get sent to Santa for Christmas Day.
I still have a photo from about 1958 of my brother and myself, complete with woollen balaclava and short trousers, stood at the side of Santa with the worst cotton wool beard ever, but we thought it was wonderful at the time.
    Fantastic precious memories.

  • Photograph depicts people who had the interest of the Co-operative Society in Mansfield and District. Would be very sad to see the decline of the Co-operative building on Queen Street in Mansfield as are many of the Mansfield folk who remember the building and service in its better days.
