WW1 Thomas Bullock

This photograph of Thomas Bullock first appeared in the Forest Town Crier Community Newspaper in December 2005.The information given at that time by Mrs J Smith said ‘ he was killed at Ypres in 1917… he lived with his parents George and Hannah Bullock of 14 Eighth Avenue, Forest Town. He was so keen to join up he gave the wrong age.’

However the Commonwealth War Graves web site  gives the following information – ‘ Lance Corporal Thomas Bullock, 2nd/8th Bn., Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regt.) who died aged 20 on Wednesday, 26th September 1917.

Lance Corporal Bullock was the son of George and Hannah Bullock, of 15 Big Barn Lane, Mansfield. Notts. He is remembered with honour on the TYNE COT MEMORIAL.’

His regimental number was 305586

He is also remembered on the Cenotaph in St Alban’s Church Yard, Forest Town.

  • Thomas was the cousin of my great grandfather David “Danny” Bullock of 13, Fifth Avenue, Forest Town. George Bullock and Danny’s dad John were brothers.
