Forest Town’s first public house opened in December 1952, the building which had previously been the village stores and beer off, was named ‘The Prince Charles.’ Over the years there have been a number of alterations and quite a few managers.
The first photo was taken when the pub opened in 1952
The second photo and pub sign was taken in 1915. The sign suggests it is Bonnie Prince Charlie.
As you can see from the photo taken on 13th July 2023 the pub has now become the King Charles and has a new pub sign with a coat of arms on it, I believe this to be just an artist’s representation not one belonging to our present or previous monarchs.
A photo taken today the 20th July 2023 shows even more decoration has been added to the outside walls.
The pub has always been known to many local people as ‘The Charlie’ and many people think that is what it will always be.

Good pictures and happy memories, I would think that the decor within the pub has also been updated to reflect the renaming of the premises. This could also apply to other recently renamed ‘King Charles’ pubs across Notts and elsewhere, (if any). Would love to pop in but not possible just now.
