World War II Casualties - Mansfield Woodhouse

I am trying to trace the 57 men named on the memorial in St. Edmund’s Church in Mansfield Woodhouse who lost their lives in WWII.

I have managed to trace all but 4 of them.

The missing 4 are:

B. BALL

G. REDFERN

T. STRAW

B. L WALTERS.

I am interested in these 4, but if anyone has information about the others, I would be most grateful.

I am in the process of getting their stories together to assure that they are not forgotten. I hope to get a book together for sale locally.

I would really appreciate it if anyone can help in any way.

  • I have found B. L. Walters. Bernard Leslie Walters died in 1946 from complications to a head wound that he had suffered in Tobruk. He hadn’t told anyone that he was suffering from pain, until it got so bad he was forced to see a doctor.
He underwent an operation and it was found that complications from his original wound had led to an abscess on his brain. This in turn led to meningitis, from which Bernard died.
A sad case. Perhaps if he had consulted a doctor earlier he might have survived?
