Freak Hail Storm

It seems that freak weather is nothing new.  These photographs from the Chad show the aftermath of a dramatic hail storm in Pleasley in 1975.

  • I remember this so well. My foster father, Rev RG Skinner of St Barnabas was really worried about the East window of the church. As soon as the storm was over he quickly went to check for any damage. There was very little damage, just a couple of areas in the window. The vicarage escaped damage luckily.

  • I do recognise Fred Bower on all of the photographs and many of the others by sight but not name. How times have changed and not for the better! Even a freak hail storm provided so much fun for the kids of that generation. How delightful!

  • I can remember that so well on that Monday morning about 7 o’clock. My wife Ann started a new job that morning and what about that mini that floated down Chesterfield Road!
