Joan & Willis Harris

My aunt Joan Harris has recently died. She worked for many years in various hosiery mills in Mansfield in the 60s and 70s. She lived on the Ladybrook Estate in Farndon Way until going into a nursing home in June 2015.

Her husband Willis Harris worked at the Co-Op Dairy as a milkman for 25 years in the 60s and 70s. Before that he was a miner at Sherwood Collery for 24 years. He died in 1989.

Just wondered if any one knew them? I will try and post more information later.

  • Julie is right. This is also my Aunty Joan married to my mothers brother Willis. I used to go to their flat with my mother when she used to visit them on Thursdays. We then went to see the other brother Albert who also lived on the Ladybrook estate as did their mum Elizabeth who had moved to an old folks bungalow on the estate before she died. I would be in short trousers then but remember it well.

  • Hi,

I’ve been researching our family, and believe this could be my husband’s Aunt & Uncle on his mother’s side Mildred Morgan (nee Harris).  My husband and I would love to hear from anyone who has any information of the Harris side of the family.

  • Hi Steve, Its a while since I looked on this site, I was Willis’s mate in 1972/73 on the Ladybrook round, we used to call at his house for a cup of tea near the end of the round. I was only 17 then and us young lads called him ‘thrasher’ because he made you hurry up but I got to know him very well, he was a nice guy really and we had a few laughs. I read on this site from a mate on Willis’s round after me that he had died not too long after retiring, he enjoyed a pint or two in the Ladybrook Hotel if i remember right. I remember your aunt when we called for a cup of tea at the weekend during the round.
