James Newton - Notts Hussars/Yeomanry

In the page ‘Mansfield Men’s Return From the 2nd Boer War 1901’ which was recently added by Tony & Dorothy Mellors it includes a list of names of men who have returned. One of the men is James Newton, and this is believed to be James Newton shown in the photograph.

As a boy he lived with his parents at Peniment Farm, Mansfield Woodhouse. The story handed down says he joined the Hussars/Yeomanry and was eventually bought out by his father who established him in Crown Farm, Mansfield where he remained till around November 1917.

  • My husband is Geoffrey Newton, born 1950 in Pleasley. The son of Frederick Walter Newton and Winifred Biggins. I wonder if they are related ?
