CHADS Club for Boys and Girls

The Chad Children’s Club was founded on the 20th July 1952 by Vic Allgood, manager of the Empire Cinema in Mansfield. He became known to all the children as Uncle Vic. These photographs and other memorabilia were pasted on to a 1962 Calendar which has fortunately been kept by his daughter and son in law. This has been loaned for us to put on the ourmansfieldandarea web site. It is hoped they bring back many happy memories for those of you who were in the Chad Children’s Club.

Comments about this page

  • All I can say is, yes, I was a member but I don’t recall being a very active one. I can only remember going to one meeting at the Old Meeting House which I don’t think was very interesting, which is probably why I only remember going to one and that is not intended as derogatory. I appreciate that I must have missed more interesting occasions. I placed more importance on assisting my mother in caring for the sister and brother who arrived in 1952 and 1953. My father was only able to be at home  on most weekends, until his subsequent overseas posting, as he was RAF Aircrew. My membership would have lapsed when we followed him out to Bahrain in September 1955.
